Antony Price, Famed for Designing for David Bowie and Duran Duran, Dies at 80.

Fashion legend Antony Price, the visionary style architect who crafted some of the most iconic looks favored by David Bowie, Roxy Music, and Queen Camilla, has died at 80 years old.

He was celebrated for his sculptured silhouettes and theatrical styles, including the pastel suits that featured in the pop-rock group Duran Duran's seminal music video for "the song Rio".

"In a tribute, they called him a 'visionary' and a 'kind, intelligent and razor-witted friend,' the band released a statement across their platforms."

His passing follows less than a month after he unveiled his most recent collection in London, his first in more than 30 years. Artist Lily Allen showcased a dress that paid homage to the notorious black velvet "revenge dress" historically worn by Princess Diana.

An Enduring Influence

Hailing from Yorkshire, where he was born in 1945, Price relocated to London during the sixties to attend the esteemed Royal College of Art.

Upon completing his studies, he began designing clothing for men at Stirling Copper and was behind the tight, button-detailed trousers that rock legend Mick Jagger sported during The Rolling Stones' "Gimme Shelter" tour in 1969.

He launched his own brand in 1979 and presented his inaugural collection a year later. The show featured as its opener outfits on the famed model Jerry Hall, who was also seen in the marriage dress Price specifically designed for her marriage to Sir Mick Jagger.

Partnerships with Stars

A key creative partner of the late David Bowie, Price designed the distinctive jacket the artist wore for his "the song As The World Falls Down" music video in 1986.

His characteristic talent to fuse menswear and womenswear along with his expert craftsmanship in shaping sculptural silhouettes made him a "one-of-a-kind talent," as stated by the British Fashion Council.

By the 1990s, he began working on ensembles for the then-Duchess of Cornwall, Camilla, such as a number of outfits for her tour of the United States after assuming the title.

After a career spanning half a century, Price staged what would be his last show in London just last month in partnership with the design house 16Arlington.
