Arne Slot Insists He Is Safe and Has Liverpool's Backing After PSV Eindhoven Humiliation

The Liverpool head coach conceded that it was expected for concerns to be asked about his future following a further heavy loss against the Dutch champions.

Liverpool endured their ninth defeat in 12 games, representing the team's worst run after being relegated in the 1953-54 season.

They were taken apart by the Dutch league champions on a punishing evening at their home ground.

“I'm confident, I'm fine, I've received plenty of support from above,” the coach stated.

“It would be great to turn it around and earn three points of course but when you're working as a coach and underperforming then it's typical that people question you.”

He added, “I accept my position. It is not the initial instance I've found myself in a challenging situation but it is about time that we turned it around.”

Discussions with The Board

When asked to elaborate on his discussions with the Liverpool hierarchy, the head coach explained:

“We communicate frequently. They are helpful for the squad and to me and we discuss these matters but they don't phone me every single minute of the day to say they back me.”

He added, “During our regular exchanges I feel the confidence. But I've not talked to them since this defeat so far so let’s see.”

Persistent Problems and Squad Reaction

Slot expressed regret over recurring shortcomings from his team in their Champions League defeat, specifically wasted chances and conceding too easily.

Meanwhile, midfielder Curtis Jones was blunter in his evaluation of the team's situation.

“I haven't got the solutions. Frankly, I don’t. I’m saying that to everyone,” the midfielder remarked.

“It’s just unacceptable. I don't need to wait to consider it. I’m past feeling anger inside. I’m at the point currently where I simply lack the phrases.”

He went on, “It's tough because I play for the club I love. I'm a supporter, and I’ve seen Liverpool for years.”

“In a long, long time, I've not seen a Reds side experiencing a spell such as this with performances so bad.”

Jones concluded, “But we still have that badge on our shirts. And until it is removed, we will always battle.”

“Our aim is to help the side back to its rightful place, prove again what Liverpool stands for and why people call it the greatest side in the world.”

“At this moment, we're in trouble and it must improve.”
