The British tennis star secured the most notable win of his career by coming back from a lost first set to defeat top-ranked player Carlos Alcaraz in three hard-fought sets in the second round of the Paris Masters.

While he had before defeated Alcaraz on two occasions, this triumph marks Norrie's first ever win over a current world top-ranked player.

"Enormous. Extremely important for me," commented Norrie, who joins as the fifth British man in the record books to beat a world No 1. "Returning from injury last year, I was defeated in the first round of qualies here. I just sought to embrace my game in the second half of the year. To secure a victory like this, it's the biggest victory of my career, my initial victory over the world No 1 and arguably the most confident competitor in the world right now."

Norrie, ranked No 31, also halted Alcaraz's supreme sequence of nine consecutive finals and 17 consecutive Masters 1000 victories, which was the top run of outcomes in the Spaniard's young career.

The top seed appeared to be moving confidently to success at the start as he cruised in the first set. However, the British contender slowly fought his way into contention by delivering with improved accuracy and engaging the Spanish opponent into prolonged, grueling rallies.
