Critical Role Campaign 4 Unveils the Soldiers Group

Since the launch of the fourth campaign, recently appointed game master the talented storyteller has kept viewers on edge with rich lore, a diverse cast of personalities, and a exciting storyline featuring celestial beings, evil spirits, and malevolent powers increasing in power within Dol-Makjar.

Heads-up: Spoilers for the third episode of the new season lie ahead.

The Soldiers Table Unveiled

Episode 3 finished on a huge suspense moment and presented the first table of characters who will branch out from the main group to begin their independent quest, apart from the other two tables.

The Soldiers table features Teor (brought to life by Travis), the nimble rogue (the talented performer), the strong-willed figure (the cast member), Wicander Halovar (Sam Riegel), and Kattigan Vale (Robbie).

Why Split the Party?

With an extensive roster, it was obvious from the outset that having everyone at a single group would be unfeasible.

This explains, the initial installments of Campaign 4 serve as an Overture, weaving together the personal journeys before splitting into three distinct groups: Warriors, Schemers, and Seekers.

What Defines the Combat Party

As described by the Dungeon Master, the Soldiers table is for players who are drawn to a typically action-packed battle-oriented gameplay experience where non-violent answers are few and far between.

At first glance, characters like the squeamish cleric the cleric might appear unsuited, but the events of the third episode show why these particular heroes are perfectly fit for the Soldiers table.

Reasons to Leave

For one thing, the team understands precisely where to head next after a violent opening clash with the enemy group.

Casimir of Thjazi Fang—whose passing initiated the narrative’s action—manipulated the foes for his selfish purposes, invading the secret base, assaulting the character, and swiping all the enchanted items to sell off.

Casimir then cleared his debts and ran away to a fortified location in the northern region, north of the city, with Cyd Pridesire close behind.

Personal Motivations

Additionally, each adventurer has a personal reason to depart the urban setting:

  • Thimble, as the close ally and closest confidant, seeks revenge.
  • The adventurer has experience in the northern area and cautions that it is a dangerous place.
  • The warrior and Wicander, having resisted his house’s orders to kill Teor and instead saved him, have nowhere else to go.
  • However, their position as prominent individuals in the powerful family could assist the party reach locations they normally couldn’t.
  • Additionally, The fighter swore a life debt to Wicander for his rescue and will now accompany him wherever.

Pursued by Authorities

Lastly, all of them are wanted by the rulers that govern Dol-Makjar for a variety of reasons, making lingering locally too risky:

  • The rogue and Kattigan are known criminals.
  • The strong figure and The healer betrayed House Halovar and the legion of demons they are aligned with.
  • Teor is wanted dead by the family.

This leaves them no alternative but to journey toward the remote area in pursuit of the antagonist.

Future Episodes

Based on the recent installment’s post-show segment, we learn that the Soldiers table won’t be around next week, leaving the remaining eight participants to round up the Questers and Strategists groups.

Fans can look forward to finding out which characters will be in which group in Campaign 4’s final introductory chapter, available to watch on next week.
