A budget proposal that would end the record-setting funding lapse in US history is advancing toward the House of Representatives for a crucial vote on midweek.

On day 43 of the legislative standoff, lawmakers are reassembling in Washington to determine if they will approve a upper chamber proposal that would support public services for two months.

Majority party officials voiced optimism the budget proposal would be approved by the Congressional body, notwithstanding their tight margin. But top Democrats pledged to fight it.
