Line of Duty Announced for 7th Series on the British Broadcaster
The acclaimed police drama AC-12 is officially returning for its seventh season, announced by the BBC.
A brand new six-part season created by Jed Mercurio starts production in Belfast in the coming months, according to the network.
Vicky McClure shared her enthusiasm about the return, stating she was "so excited" about the show's renewal. Her co-star remarked, "What a joy it is to know that the main trio will be back filming together next year."
The previous series wrapped up in recent years with a final episode that drew in more than 17 million audience members. Speculation about a new season have been widespread for some time, but official word only arrived recently.
Fresh Obstacles for AC-12
Series seven will open with the anti-corruption unit having been disbanded and rebranded as the new police oversight body, according to the announcement.
Steve Arnott, Kate Fleming, and Adrian Dunbar's part remain tasked to tackle misconduct within the law enforcement.
The team's mission "has never been more difficult", and in this climate, the trio are assigned their "most delicate case so far."
New Character and Complex Case
A new character, Det Insp Dominic Gough, portrayed as a charming officer celebrated for takedowns of organized crime, faces allegations of misusing his authority to act as a sexual predator.
However, his case might serve as a deliberate distraction from a bigger threat still active in the background, the teaser hinted.
Speaking about the renewal, the creator commented: "All cast and crew are deeply thankful to the dedicated viewers."
"It's an honor to have had countless fans track the developments of the unit over six previous seasons and we are thrilled to be coming back for a new season."
He added: "Misconduct in the UK is supposed to have ended while Line of Duty was off air, so I've been compelled to use my imagination."
Actor Responses
The Scottish actor called being part of the police drama as "the role of a career".
"Not only the program's popularity but the colleagues I've worked with I now call dear friends."
"I'm excited to pull the waistcoat on again and reunite with everyone," he added.
The Nottingham-born actress stated: "It goes without saying I'm so excited Line of Duty is back! Can't wait to work with Jed, Martin and Dunbar again. Belfast, we'll see you soon!"
Adrian Dunbar noted: "While anticipating the AC-12 return, what a joy it is to know that the Three Amigos will be back filming soon."
"Pleased with the news and looking forward to those unexpected twists and turns."
Show History
The drama premiered in 2012 and evolved into a highly successful television series of the past ten years, featuring notable actors such as Stephen Graham.
Broadcasters haven't revealed exactly the new season will premiere.
The conclusion of season six drew the long-running storyline about the hunt for kingpin known as "the mysterious H" to a conclusion, and producers indicated at the time there were no intentions for additional seasons.
However, the corporation announced on Tuesday that a new season is now being produced.
