Pat Bamford Signs With the Blades Despite Leading Derogatory Chants Targeting Coach Chris Wilder
The striker has signed with the Championship side only half a year following leading disrespectful chants directed at the team's coach, Wilder.
This experienced forward, without a club since leaving Leeds, has agreed to a contract joining the Championship strugglers through the winter. Bamford's seven-year time with Leeds finished amicably this past summer.
Among the player's final notable acts as a Leeds player was to lead abusive songs about Wilder amid the club’s success festivities in April. Now, the former England player is set to play for Wilder as the Blades’ manager seeks to lift the team he loves away from the bottom places.
Past Conflict Involving the Striker and Wilder
Both men had history prior to Leeds moved up back to the Premier League last season while Sheffield United were defeated in the promotion decider to Sunderland. Wilder described the forward as “a muppet” back when the roles were reversed during the 2018-19 season and the Blades won direct promotion whereas Leeds missed out in the promotion playoffs.
Making Amends & Looking Ahead
All seems has been resolved with United, the Championship’s lowest scorers, in desperate need of improvement in attack and Bamford hoping to rejuvenate his playing days.
The song about Wilder gained traction in April. A repentant Patrick along with Leeds boss, Farke, phoned the Sheffield United manager the following day.
Chris Wilder commented back then: “Had a conversation with Pat yesterday and I have no issue whatsoever with that. I’m not sure about the words used from a fellow pro! However I valued and respected him giving me a call.
“We had 20 minutes and similarly I talked with Daniel Farke as well and we had a half-hour chat together and he is a super guy, a class act. When I was playing we would give it and accept it and that is an integral part of football across all levels, including Sunday league. I've got absolutely no issue. I am cool with the situation and I told him that to Patrick.”
Latest Playing Struggles
Bamford made 18 appearances for Leeds in the previous campaign however the former Forest, Chelsea FC & Middlesbrough striker has struggled with fitness issues over the past few seasons.
