President Trump Welcomes Loved Ones of Injured Guard Personnel to the White House
President Donald Trump announced on Sunday that he has invited the loved ones of a Guard member fatally shot last week to visit the presidential home.
He noted that he contacted her parents and they were “deeply grieving”.
Details on the Heartbreaking Event
Soldier Sarah Beckstrom, twenty years old, was killed in a shooting on Wednesday in Washington DC.
Her comrade, Andrew Wolfe, twenty-four years old, remains hospitalized in grave state.
Vigils across West Virginia have occurred in their memory.
White House Offer
The president stated he’s discussed a visit to the White House for the families of both individuals of the West Virginia Guard.
“I stated: ‘When you’re ready, because that’s a hard experience, visit the White House. We’re going to recognize Sarah,” Trump informed the press. “And similarly with him, no matter the outcome.”
Community Response
Community members came together over the weekend at Webster County high school in the state to honor Sarah.
Both she and Wolfe had been serving with the state guard as part of Trump’s government program to aid policing efforts in Washington DC.
Paying Tribute to the Soldier
“Sarah was the type of pupil that teachers desired. She conducted herself with calm resilience, a contagious smile and a optimistic attitude that encouraged those around her,” Jarrod Hankins, the principal of her previous school, told the Associated Press. “She was kind, compassionate and always willing to assist people.”
Service plans for Beckstrom are yet to be finalized.
Judicial Measures and Government Changes
Authorities have indicted a 29-year-old individual from Afghanistan with a charge of first-degree murder and charges of violent assault while armed.
The event led the government to suspend asylum processing and cease issuing visas to holders of passports from Afghanistan.
Status of the Airman
The airman, a native of the city, started his military career in February 2019 and is a 2019 graduate of Musselman High, per the Associated Press.
He continues to receive treatment and is “in a critical fight”, West Virginia governor the governor said on Fox News Channel’s The Sunday Briefing.
Attorney general Pam Bondi told a news show that she also intended to visit the family.
Impact of the Fallen Soldier
Beckstrom, from Summersville, graduated from Webster County High in June 2023 and joined the military shortly after, working as a law enforcement officer with honor, per the West Virginia National Guard.
“She had a lot of compassion and she absolutely had fortitude,” Morrisey told the gathering at the memorial. “Though her time ended too soon, she has made an impact that’s going to endure.”
