The Mighty Nein's Introductory Sequence Selected the Incorrect Critical Role Track
The Mighty Nein, the newest animated series from the beloved role-playing group, unveiled a new introductory sequence. It features our favorite group of outcasts, misfits, and rogues fighting hard and making their mark, while teasing at multiple agonizing personal histories for characters including Liam O'Brien's mage Caleb, and another actor's warlock orc, the character Fjord.
Overall, the opening appears amazing. However, I felt that something was lost in the music selection.
The intro uses "Welcome to Wildemount", an exceptional song created by artist Colm McGuinness. It's a track from the soundtrack album of the same name, the second release put out by the production company's music division their music brand. It's a wonderful sentimental option, and I believe that fans of the second campaign will appreciate its inclusion.
But for me, The series' intro fails to capture the hype and excitement that accompanied the second campaign's actual-play adventure. "It's Your Turn", composed by musician the artist, became an immediate hit for me when it was initially unveiled in 2015, and it only got better when cast member the performer added lyrics to the melody for the series' animated intro in 2018.
Including singing from one actress, Laura Bailey, Travis Willingham, as well as Riegel himself, the track was memorable and enjoyable. Back then, I hadn't seen the follow-up series at that point, but it was so infectious that I kept it on my device. It's a song that knows how to get you pumped before you dive into an episode of adventurous fun.
The Mighty Nein's opening with "the new song" fails to hit the right notes in my opinion. It's an impressive piece of music, but from what I know of the group, I feel that its mood is somewhat mismatched.
Naturally, the creators has already said that the series will have a few surprises and differences from the actual-play campaign. A tonal change for its opening appears as one of them.
The Mighty Nein will be released on Prime Video from November 19. For those eager until then, or wish to prepare to get to know the characters of the second series, the actual play are accessible on Spotify and the video site.
