Toronto Blue Jays Claim World Series Showdown Against Los Angeles Dodgers

George Springer celebrating

The outfielder was instrumental for the Astros securing the championship in 2017.

Toronto's Blue Jays reached their first Fall Classic following 1993 by beating the Seattle Mariners in the decisive Game 7 of the AL Championship Series.

Trailing three runs to one, Springer smashed a three-run blast in the seventh, propelling the Toronto squad in the majors to a 4-3 win in the series. Awaiting them are the defending champions, who are the current crown, in the anticipated World Series.

"I'm just so happy for this squad, our city, our country," commented Springer, a star of the Astros team that won the 2017 World Series. "What an incredible feeling."

Springer has now connected for 23 playoff homers, placing him third in history after Ramirez (29) and Jose Altuve (27).

"I can't think of another person on planet Earth that I'd choose in that situation besides Springer with his post-season brilliance," noted manager John Schneider.

The Mariners, after leading the early in the series, remain the sole team that has never reached in a Fall Classic.

Manager Dan Wilson commented "there's no question that it's painful" in the wake of his club's elimination at Rogers Centre, but commended their work in the campaign.

"They're an exceptional squad. Unfortunately that we ended up on the losing end of this game," he continued.

The Blue Jays won the championship on their two prior appearances in 1992 and 1993, and are set to host the Los Angeles in game one on Friday.
