UN:Me: A Psychological Thriller Merging Silent Hill with Social Deduction Gameplay

The latest Day of the Devs digital showcase revealed several fascinating future games, but one especially has captured attention: UN:Me. Created by Historia and Shueisha Games, this single-player adventure seems to blend the oppressive atmosphere of a Silent Hill game with the paranoid deduction core of Among Us.

"It's a distinctive experience where a young woman harboring several personalities inside her must escape from a labyrinth of the mind," explains developer Yasukazu Kawai.

Stepping Into a Shattered Mind

In UN:Me, players take control of an unnamed heroine who appears to be of teenage years. Inside her reside four separate personas, all possessing unique anxieties and motivations. These souls can take over spontaneously, releasing their innermost terrors upon her without warning.

Based on showcased footage, much of the action unfolds within a eerie hospital, though additional clips depict the protagonist exploring a abandoned chapel.

An Environment of Individual Horror

"What makes you fearful of? What causes you uneasy?" asks creative lead Shun Sasaki. "Heights. Small rooms. People in power. Elements that appear minor to other people can trigger a deep instinct inside us. This game delves into that idea — anxieties that are specific to each person."

The central gameplay loop involves managing the persona that surfaces at any given moment. However, these identities will switch against your will as you play. During exploration, each soul's fears become amplified and assault the girl in succession. When the soul changes, so does the specific fear the player encounters.

Eerie Aesthetics and a Deadly Decision

Initially, UN:Me displays noticeable aesthetic parallels with the Silent Hill series. The setting is populated by nurses who all share the identical visage, with unnervingly wide grins. Figures in the lobby have enormous blooms growing from their heads are. Flowers are an ever-present element, contrasting natural beauty with unnatural horror.

Yet, UN:Me presents a singular twist. Players are tasked with deducing which of the four souls haunting the protagonist is the "real" one. "All four souls claims that the body is rightfully them," explains a creator. "Throughout the game, you must determine who is authentic."

Once players have deduced a soul is an impostor, they must eliminate it. But, because every entity can lie or hide the truth, it is very easy to make a mistake.

"Maybe you've already eliminated the true [soul] with your own hands," the narration states. "The final entity standing could be a fraud. Either way, your choices are final."

UN:Me does not yet have a confirmed release date, but it is can be wishlist on platforms.
