A extended journey circling Australia is being halted following the death of an elderly woman who was stranded by the ship on a remote coastal location.

The passenger had been walking on the remote island with fellow passengers from the vessel, but broke off from the group for a break. The ship departed without her and went back several hours later after the ship staff became aware the woman was not present.

A large-scale rescue mission located her body the subsequent day.

Authorities are examining the tragedy, alongside police and the state coroner.

The CEO of the cruise operator stated that travelers and staff on the vessel were notified that the remainder of the cruise had been terminated due to the "tragic passing and earlier technical problems".

In a statement, he further stated that guests would be given a complete reimbursement, and said the organization was working "to arrange the return journeys of the passengers via chartered flights".

Authorities also published an updated announcement, and said they had "issued a notice to the Commander" banning any new passengers from boarding the liner.

The official said that they would inspect the vessel in the Australian city upon its arrival.

Sequence of Events

The liner initially left Cairns on the 24th of October, and was merely two days into the journey at the point of the 80-year-old's passing. The tropical location was the initial destination on the itinerary.

Passengers on the vessel - who typically pay tens of thousands of dollars to take part in the voyage - were ferried there for a shore visit with the choice of hiking or underwater exploration.

Relatives Reaction

The offspring of the elderly passenger said that her loved ones was "shocked and saddened that the liner left Lizard Island after an organised outing without my mother".

Through her comments, she characterized her mum as an "vigorous octogenarian" who was a member of a walking organization.

"According to scant facts we have been provided, it looks that there was a breakdown of care and common sense," she mentioned.
